Not to be mistaken for an average watch, the Seikomatic-P is a much higher specification than expected.  Model reference 5106-8020.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in February 1968.  The Seikomatic-P was only produced between 1967 and 1969.

CONDITION

Before we get to condition, we should really make a note of what makes this watch above average – and it is all in the movement.  Firstly, as stated on the dial, it has 33 jewels – and they are all functional.  At least three (possibly four) have Diafix shock protection fitted – normally shock protection is only fitted to the balance wheel.  For those more technically minded a watchmaker has done a great article here on this movement, and for those not as technically minded we will concentrate on the highlights.  Those include instant day date changes at midnight, a quick set button hidden in the centre of the crown (as shown in the video), hacking seconds and the ability to hand wind the automatic movement.  All of which make this a very easy watch to enjoy regularly.

All is working well.  The case is much larger than average for the time, but still under 10mm thick.  The dial is very good, but the case does show some wear that should be expected on a gold plated watch of this age.  The glass is chip and scratch free.  Most Seiko’s of this period will not retain their original bracelets – the folded link design wasn’t designed to last over 50 years – but this one has survived and is long too.  There is some wear to the gold plated centre sections, but if that bothered you (or you wanted to preserve the bracelet) the watch would look great on a leather strap instead.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.  It is not everyday you are going to find a Seikomatic-P (this is the first one we have found!), but they are definitely ones to look out for.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
