One of just 100 made, this Swiss made Buran is fitted with the highly respected ETA (Peseux) calibre 7001.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Buran S.A. are not the similarly named Russian manufacturer, but instead were based in Porrentruy in the heart of Swiss watchmaking, the Jura Valley. They have not left a massive archive of material, but we do know they exhibited at the Basel Watch Fair from 2009 to 2013. You can still find very similar watches to this one available for sale at £749 in different colour schemes but with the same case and movement.
CONDITION
Some limited editions number well into the thousands, and finding another one is not too hard. This watch is number 87 of 100 made, meaning you may never see another for sale. The oversized case certainly fills your wrist and the extra wide strap makes it feel like wearing a cuff (especially if you are used to vintage watches.) While BUran SA may not have survived, the parts they used to make this watch were good. The watch is using the ETA 7001 (formerly known as the Peseux 7001). This movement is often used in thin dress watches, and as base calibers in upmarket brands up to and including Van Cleef & Arpels. – to buy a new movement would cost more than we are asking for this entire watch. You also get a curved sapphire crystal that has anti reflective coating, and even the crown is nicely turned with a fine helix pattern. The gold plated case does show some small marks. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
