A Tissot PR516 in great original condition, still retaining the original signed strap and three hole buckle. A collectors dream.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the original Tissot movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1970.
CONDITION
The reasons that it is so nice to find a PR516 with the original strap and buckle is because the wholes in the strap and buckle were a deliberate design clue to link the watch with motor racing, and are designed to make you think of the drilled steering wheels that the race cars sported. It also shows that the watch has not been worn much, and that is difficult to find on a watch that is over 45 years old.
The condition of the rest of the watch supports this. The case has just a few signs of wear and tear, and the signed winder is similarly good. The photos sometimes make it look like the case is brassed, but it isn’t. The dial is superb, even under a loupe, with the red 516 being a nice highlight. The screw down case back had the original, sticky seal which we have cleared up and replaced with a new conventional seal. Inside is a 21 jewel 784-2 Tissot movement, complete with semi quickset date, that is working well.
