The Millennium range was a very popular range from Dunhill from the mid eighties, combining good quality with Cartier inspired looks.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We can not say for certain when this watch was made, but we have found an article in International WristWatch magazine from late 1990 that has a write up on Dunhill, and include this exact model of watch in the pictures.
CONDITION
Dunhill have been making luxury items since the 1890’s and the earliest watch dates from 1906. Just like this one, that had the case design by Dunhill and the mechanical ebauche (movement) was bought in. At the same time that this watch was selling, Dunhill were also selling Millennium models with the Zenith El Primero movement, and the range also included a double sided elite gold watch for £24,950. This watch retailed at £490 back then, and contains a signed, 7 jewel Swiss ETA quartz movement with quick set date. That is housed in a stainless steel and 18k plated case and bracelet, which when combined with the roman numerals does draw comparison to Cartier. The helix crown is plated and does show some wear to the edge. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and retains the elongated Dunhill ‘d’ logo on the clasp. There is small marks all over the case and bracelet consistent with careful wear, but the enlarged photos make it look far worse than the human eye would pick up. The case back is inscribed for an Enterprise Award C. E. H. – we have not found a company that won the Queen’s enterprise award with these initials, but it could be the owner of the watch or a different enterprise award.
