This may be a 1980’s Sekonda, but the Polaris was a bit of a range topper and has features you may not expect from the brand advertised as a lot of watch for little money.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have found the same Polaris model in the 1982 Argos catalogue, and it didn’t appear in the 1981 or 1983 editions, so we are comfortable to say this watch was likely made circa 1982.
CONDITION
If you say Polaris to most watch fans, they will think of a different watch. In the same year, 1982, Omega launched the Seamaster Polaris. Designed by Genta, the Omega Polaris was also a bi metal quartz watch with integrated bracelet, but there the comparison stops. The Sekonda here has more angular looks, not too dissimilar to a Rolex Oysterquartz.
The dial has a checkerboard pattern, and texture, but one strange thing is you have lume dots on the dial but not on the hands – not much use as a design there! The signed crown is screw down – unusual for a Sekonda, but this was a more expensive model back in 1982 than the average Sekonda. You can quick set the day and date, and choose between English or French for the day wheel language. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
