This is a bargain price for a 1970’s Omega automatic, but please do read on to see details of the restoration.  Model reference 166.0163

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Normally we can date Omega watches from the serial number on the movement, but in this case we are not able to be read the serial number disc.  Instead we have used Omega’s vintage watch website, which states this model was introduced in 1973.

CONDITION

The 166.0163 reference that is stamped on the inside of the case back is for an Omega Geneve, not a Seamaster.  What we believe to have happened is that the watch has had a new dial at some point, and the wording Geneve was replaced with Seamaster.  The dial does not appear to have been painted, so it may have been swapped with a dial that was available rather than a deliberate attempt to mislead.  A Seamaster is worth fractionally more than a Geneve, but not enough to justify the work on its own.  Selling a Geneve with a Seamaster dial actually hurts the value of the watch, but it also presents an opportunity for someone to own an Omega automatic watch from the 1970’s at a reduced price that is cosmetically very presentable.  The Omega Automatic calibre 1012 is fitted, as was correct for the Geneve model but these were also used in Seamasters.  It is running well, and has quick set date that is accessed via the signed crown.  The case is all stainless steel, and has been polished in the past so only small marks show.  The leather strap is new.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
