The Sekonda Strela (Russian for Arrow) chronograph watches were official watches issued to pilots and cosmonauts, and one was allegedly used in the very first space walk.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Sekonda watches were founded in 1966, so this watch has to be later than that.  Sekonda themselves feature this watch model on their history page of their website you can see here.   Another source states the Sekonda name was mainly used on the Strela models, taking over from Poljot, from the mid to late 1970’s and this watch model finished production in 1979.  We have just picked a mid point year.

CONDITION

The Strela model has the manual wind calibre 3107 movement, heavily based on the Venus 150/152.  This is a 19 jewel column wheel chronograph, which was eventually replaced with the cam switched 3133 still in production today.  The dial is very good, and has the telemetre scale around the centre of the dial.  The paddle hands have all their green lume in place, and the tip of the hands are in red as they should be.  The case is not stainless steel, but base metal.  It has some slight tarnish marks on it, and a small ding in the bezel at 9.  The chronograph is working well.  The watch comes on a stainless steel strap that is such a good match that it might be original – it is not stamped Sekonda though, but this is the second example we have had on the exact same bracelet.  The advert we found shows the watch available on a black leather strap, which can easily be fitted.  This overall is a good example of a watch that is quickly appreciating in value – these watches have risen in value a lot over recent years as they have become more appreciated for their wearable size, space connection and if you wanted a column wheel chronograph from 1976 when so many watches were quartz, LED and LCD then there is nothing else available near this price.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
