A proper divers watch from Seiko, with a far larger than normal for the time stainless steel case. Model reference 7548-7000.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in October 1980.
CONDITION
In 1980, divers watches were not in fashion. In fact, small, square, gold plated watches were in vogue – the exact opposite of what Seiko have made with this 7548-7000. Not only were divers watches not sold in huge numbers, but they were often used by divers, so many have significant wear that these tool watches were designed to take. Hence finding a good example now is not straightforward, but that is what we have here. The crown screws down smoothly, and the sixty click bezel is firm but not seized (salt water often stops bezels from turning as it dries and leaves deposits). As well as the standard Seiko markings on the case back, there is also a stamped number – B9307 – which we have now been informed is a stamp from a Seiko service centre, showing Battery changed July 1993. You can quick set both the day and date, and can also chose between English or Kanji for the day display. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The rubber strap is an aftermarket item with dive limits printed on it. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
