HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
There is no way of accurately dating TAG Heuer watches without sales papers, but we can see that this model was in the 1995/96 dealer catalogue (picture included). The 6000 series was launched in 1993, so this watch can’t be earlier that that. But the movement has a date stamp of February 1999, so we think this watch is from that year.
CONDITION
The TAG Heuer 6000 was designed by Jorg Hysek, now a manufacturer in his own right. He cleverly included the TAG Heuer shield logo in various places without being obvious – the top and bottom centre links on the bracelet, upside down on the 12 o’clock hour marker and the bezel pip is also shield shaped. The watch was available as either quartz or automatic, and with bracelet of with a unique leather band. The bracelet is the model to get if you can, as it will not need replacing every few years. The bracelet is made from over 200 components, which gives it great flexibility to allow it to be very comfortable. We have cleaned the long bracelet in our ultrasonic bath. The glass is sapphire crystal, and has a magnifier over the quick set date – both of which are perfect. The deep blue dial is set with tritium lume that matches the Mercedes hands. This was a proper divers watch too – initially rated at 200m, it has the unidirectional bezel and screw down signed crown. The seven jewel ETA movement is working perfectly and is also stamped TAG Heuer, and we will fit a new battery before sending this out. This was an expensive item when new.
