HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The first VHP Conquest models were launched in 1984, with Lithium batteries and have Li on the dial. In 1985 these were switched to ETA based movements that required normal batteries, and a little later these were improved further and became the movement calibre in this watch. In the late eighties the second oscillator was removed, and the calibre changed, so this watch must date to the mid to late eighties.
CONDITION
Super accurate quartz watches were not new – Seiko Grand Quartz for example were achieving this level of accuracy for years before the VHP was launched. But in order to compete with the cheaper quartz watches Longines needed to differentiate itself with quality. So not only was this very precise, but you can also independently set the hour hand to allow the jet set to cross time zones whilst not interrupting the time keeping. The case and bracelet were also made from titanium – a very light yet strong material that makes this very light to wear. It is hard to machine, and therefore costly, but results in a very comfortable watch to wear. The movement is Longines calibre 174.4, which is all running well and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and while the centre gold plated links do show some wear it is not a bad example by any means. The dial and hands are excellent
