Theses were the first Citizen wristwatches to ever feature a central seconds hand, hence the rather obvious Center Second name.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Citizen Centre Second models were launched in 1948, and ran though several generations for about a decade. From 1956 they started to be fitted with Citizens Parashock system, which this doesn’t have, and the decoration on the movement was reduced – this is decorated. So we think this is an earlier model, form circa 1950.
CONDITION
If you like the idea of a 30mm Rolex Oyster, or even the same sized Patek Philippe ref 96, but the size concerns you then this could be a useful way of gauging the fit of a smaller watch from the same period. Not that this is the only reason to buy it – the patterned centre section of the dial is a treat, along with the gold coloured applied hour markers and hands. The manual wind movement is all working well. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
