Quite a scarce Longines Avigation automatic men’s watch, with a 1940’s style to it.  Model reference L2.628.4.73.6.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

We contacted the helpful people at Longines with detailed photos of the watch and the serial number, and they confirmed it was invoiced to Swatch group in London on 17th May 2002.

CONDITION

Avigation.  It is strange name and our research has not found the source of the name, but it is contemporary with the Longines Oposition that also dropped a letter.  Maybe Navigation was already taken?  Never mind, Avigation it is and these were available in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, and the styling is similar to the IWC Portuguese.

This example has some scuffs around the bezel that could be polished out if absolutely necessary, but lots of our customers like used watches to look a little used.  The sapphire crystal is perfect, and the dial is too.  The lume on the sword hands is still very effective, and you can still see the tiny pip of lume at 12 too.  The movement is a decorated Longines 619, which is based on the slim ETA 2892-A2, and it is running nicely.  The crown is original, and just squeaks slightly when being hand wound.  The leather strap is new, and the Longins buckle has been fitted to it.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
