A very rare black dial with ridged bezel TAG Heuer 1500 model that you had to be friends with the dealer in order to be able to order. Model reference 959.713D
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1991. The 1500 model was introduced in 1990, but the black dial with the ridged bezel wasn’t featured in the catalogue – you had to ask for it. That is why this watch doesn’t feature in the normal lists of TAG Heuer models. You could get a 1500 with a smooth painted bezel with black dial, or the ridged bezel with the grey dial, but not normally this combination we have here.
CONDITION
The 1500 was a model above the cheaper F1 models, but below the 2000 series and was pitched as a cost conscience choice. You still got 200m water resistance, Mercedes hands, rotating dive bezel, screw down crown etc, but it was just cheaper than the 2000. You had to go up tot he 400 to get a solid link bracelet, and a sapphire crystal, but there is little to pick between the 1500 and the 2000. The movement might be branded TAG Heuer, but it was actually made by ETA and is all working well. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The unidirectional bezel turns easily, and has a little movement in it. The glass does have light scratches. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
