HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork, which repeats the serial number on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold in April 1985. April is also noted as having the birth stone for diamonds, which fits nicely.
CONDITION
Rado launched the Diastar in 1962, and proclaimed it was the worlds first scratch proof watch. The extra hard materials used have a real advantage when buying a vintage watch, as the watch barely looks worn. In this example that lack of wear extends to the gold plated bracelet, so in all likeliness this particular watch wasn’t worn much anyway. That makes this quite a find, as a new automatic ladies Rado with diamonds on the dial would cost in excess of £1,500. The purple/blue dial has a texture that shimmers, and there are eleven diamonds marking the hours – not twelve, as the day date calendar takes up that space. Those functions can be quick set via the signed crown, and the day wheel is in English. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has a sprung extension piece built into the signed clasp, ensuring comfort all day long. The movement is an ETA 2678, which has seventeen jewels and the correct Rado signed rotor.
