A very original mechanical presentation watch from the Crown jewellers Garrard, complete with the box and the original strap.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The case back is engraved from Pressed Steel Fisher, to J.S. Hilsdon 1955 -1980.  Mr Hilsdon had to work for twenty five years to get this watch.  Presentation watches, especially from Garrard, are normally in 9k gold but in 1980 the gold price had quadrupled in the past ten years which helps to explain why this is gold plated.

CONDITION

The easiest way to show that this watch has not been worn much is the Garrard leather strap barely has a mark on it.  The rest of the watch is similar, and we suspect this watch spent the majority of its life in the glasses case style box.  The white dial is crisp, and the acrylic glass scratch free.  The movement used is a Unitas 6565, which has seventeen jewels and is manually wound – quite unusual in 1980 where the majority of watches had quartz movements.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
