A marketing tie up that would be unimaginable today, Seiko really did make watches for Hugh Hefner’s Playboy magazine. Model reference 2220-5030.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in February 1978. We have also found this model in the 1978 Japanese Seiko catalogue, at a price of ¥27,000. For reference, a Seiko 6138 Bullshead automatic chronograph was ¥24,000, so the Playboy was a considered purchase.
CONDITION
This isn’t just a novelty watch. Inside you have Seiko’s manual wind 24 jewel calibre 2220A movement, which is running well and has micro adjustment on the regulator. Impressively the original buckle, signed with the Playboy bunny image, is still fitted. Less than perfect is the chrome case that is showing some pitting, and the glass also has some marks, so it is priced accordingly. The case size is now considered unisex, so we show the watch on both a mans and ladies wrist. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and buckle.
This watch will be supplied with our branded and reusable zipped travel case and cleaning cloth, and our Certificate of Authenticity.
Please see the HD video for more detail. All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned. We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.

By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
