HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1977.
CONDITION
Seiko launched their first LCD watch (the World first) in 1973, and it had the effect of making the current cutting edge Pulsar LED watch look old hat overnight. It used less power, and the display was always visible (the Pulsar you had to press a button to see the time for 1.25 seconds!). As ever, Seiko did not rest on their laurels and added extra features. By the time the M154 module was launched, you have a backlight, day and date and annual calendar (the M in M154 stands for Multifunctional). This tech’ was next level, and the competition did catch up eventually but what Seiko did that others failed was keep the quality high. No plastic cases or rubber straps, but all stainless steel construction. It was not particularly cheap either – this watch cost ¥35,000 in 1977, whereas a mechanical chronograph Seiko Bullshead was ¥24,000. And the quality shows now – all functions including the backlight still work. The only thing that can not be set correctly is the year – it can only be programmed up to 2009 as shown in the video. The case, bracelet and glass has light scratches from being worn but not serious damage. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The B312 bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
