HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in October 1976.
CONDITION
The Grand Seiko range was (and now is again) the premium watches from Seiko. But in 1969 Seiko launched the first quartz watch onto the market, and that made the previous best timekeepers look quite average. After the initial launch the development continued, with frequencies being increased, sizes reduced and accuracy improved. First came the VFA (Very Finely Adjusted) quartz watches, then the Grand Quartz like we have here that promised a rate of +/- 10 seconds per month – a huge improvement on COSC timings of -4/+6 seconds per day. This watch is all running nicely, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. Cosmetically there are some issues – the case has been scratched and polished, and some marks still remain. The dial also has some dirt around the very edge between 12 and 2, but that is less noticeable on the wrist than you might expect. The dial itself is textured, which is sometimes called moondust, and it looks great is different lights. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
