One of the earliest Omega quartz watches, this 1973 model didn’t even need a sub brand like Seamaster or Geneve.  Model reference 196.0065.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973.  1973 was also the launch year of the movement used in this watch, which was the first In House quartz movement Omega produced.

CONDITION

Whilst Seiko were the first to launch a Quartz regulated watch in 1969, the Swiss were already working on a rival called Beta 21 – and Omega were one of many companies involved in that project.  But by 1973 Omega made their own movement, with improvements over the Beta 21.  Calibre 1310, as fitted in this watch, has a day and date function.  The date can be advanced by pressing the button at 4, whilst the button at 2 can make small adjustments to the timekeeping.  On top of this was the ability to quick set the hour hand independently – ideal for those who frequently cross time zones.  The movement was deemed so precise that wearers wouldn’t want to interrupt the timekeeping when getting off their jet.  The frequency was also upped from the 8,192Hz of the Beta 21 and Seiko to 32,768Hz – the same as almost all quartz watches made since.  Everything is working on this example, and the coil cover – so often missing – is still in place.  We will install a brand new 386 battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  The dial is clean and original, and the crown is signed.  The acrylic crystal has been polished and has some marks to the edges, but is also the original with the Omega symbol in the centre.  The number 32/1195 bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, crystal and clasp.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
