With unique patina, this blue dialed Seiko 5 Actus was always designed to be different. Model reference 6106-5440.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in December 1972.
CONDITION
Actus was a range of watches among Seiko’s vast and confusing sub brands, but generally they were the cheaper watches with a focus on bolder designs. You still got a 23 jewel calibre 6106C automatic only movement with quick set date, and non quick set day wheel in either English or Kanji. The blue dial is striking enough with the horizontal hour markers, but this watch has faded across the centre and around the calendar windows. This patterning will be completely unique to this watch, and will either put you off or have you reaching for your card. There is some pitting on the bottom right corner of the dial too to be aware off. Originally the watch would have come on a bracelet, as shown in the brochure photo, but this has been lost over time. The 18mm leather strap is nearly new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The Seiko buckle fitted is much more modern than the watch, but the squared off design suits perfectly.
