This automatic men’s Eterna Centenaire 71 has the hockey stick hour indices on the dial that bounce light around nicely. Model reference 106 IVT.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The first Centenaire models came out in 1956, fittingly to mark Eterna’s 100 year anniversary. However, the model name proved popular and a different range came out in 1961 too, which actually ran for a few years (so some will have Centenaire ’61 on the dial, and some won’t). As you have probably worked out by now, the third series of watches came out in 1971 and were the Centenaire ’71’ – which is the one we have here.
CONDITION
Eterna were always famed for their skills at making movements, and this is still seen today with their spin off company ETA. This watch uses the Eterna 1480K movement, which is slim for an automatic with calendar and constant seconds, allowing the whole watch to come in under 10mm thick. The calendar can just about be quick set, by pulling the crown outwards, but it can also be set using the semi quick set method which might be easier on this watch. The dial has marks around the centre, where the hands have touched the dial in the past (they are clear now). The hockey stick hour markers allow the minute hand to pass under them, and the second hand to pass over them. The signed vintage leather strap is like new, and is fitted with a correct signed buckle too. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, buckle and strap.
