HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1970.
CONDITION
It is possible to have a gold Rolex and not look like you are flaunting your wealth, as long as it is the Cellini models. These dress watches were a long standing part of the catalogue, but they were in the background behind the oyster cased everyday watches. We have a 1994 catalogue which features a very similar model, 24 years after this watch was made, proving it is a timeless design. Following all the dress watch rules (simple, two hands, high quality, leather strap, slim), reference 3830 makes an interesting alternative to going straight for a more obvious choice. The movement is the Rolex 1600 manual wind movement is very slim, has 19 jewels and shock protection on both the balance and escapement wheel. The jet black dial is excellent, and suits the watch perfectly. The glass has some slight marks. The case has Roman numerals around the outside and on earlier watches there were infilled with enamel, but here is it a cleaner look. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
The Cellini range has now been replaced by the 1908 models, but they start at over £20,000
