A nice, large 1969 Caravelle divers watch with automatic movement.  Model reference 745.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the production date on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made sold in 1969.

CONDITION

Caravelle were Bulova’s version of Tudor and Rolex – a brand with much of the same parts except the movement was made by an out side source, not Bulova (or Rolex in the Tudor analogy).  This made the watches a little cheaper, but prices are now catching up the Bulova models,  This watch has a 17 jewel AS1906, engraved on the weight for Caravelle, and the added advantage of using an off the shelf movement is that spares are easier to find should they be needed.  This watch has a day and date calendar, with French day wheel, and these can be semi quick set as shown in the video.  Everything is working well, and the red second hand is a nice styling touch.  The bezel turns without clicks in both directions, so this was never a serious divers watch.  The rubber strap is a period correct Tropic Sport, and worth quite a bit on it’s own.  The large steel case has been polished in the past.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
