Double signed as a Seamaster De Ville, this was from when Omega were using the sub brand names more loosely. Model reference 165.008.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1965. This model also features on the Omega website here, albeit that one is in a gold case.
CONDITION
The De Ville is Omega’s more dressy line of watches, and the Seamaster was their waterproof range (now they are all dive watches). So when they built a waterproof by dressy steel watch they just called it a Seamaster De Ville, a move that would horrify the Omega marketing team today! But it is a little sporty and a little dressy, so it does make some sense. Inside the case is Omega’s automatic winding calibre 711. This slim movement has 24 jewels and was adjusted to two positions, so was the sort of quality you would hope for from Omega, and it is all working well. You can also hand wind it via the original signed crown, but it is a small crown and not easy to wind like that. The dial does have some patina, but has not been restored so it is all original. The acrylic crystal is new, and has a golden tension ring to match the hour markers. The case has some marks, particularly but is unpolished and honest. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
