The Don Giovanni range from Raymond Weil was named after the Mozart Opera. Model reference 4873.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sadly we do not have the box and papers for this watch, and Raymond Weil watches are hard to accurately date. However we have found an identical watch that has sold with papers that was from 2002. We have no reason to disagree with that as a likely date of production.
CONDITION
Square chronographs are not a common sight, but this Don Giovanni model works well as a design. The later models switched from Arabic numerals to Roman numerals, and the dial looks a little cluttered then. Under the sapphire crystal you has a crisp white dial, and behind the screwed one caseback is an ETA 23 jewel chronograph movement, and you can quick set the date by advancing the hour hand – this also allows for easy and accurate time zone changes. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The case all feels solid, but there is a mark on the side near 7. The bracelet is solid too but quite short, but this can be overcome by fitting a 22mm leather strap – we have taken photos on a couple of different straps to show how versatile the design is with alternative straps. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
