Oris were the first manufacturer to make a regulator divers watch in the late 1990’s, and these sort after watches with their quirky complication are ideal for diving.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have found this model in Oris catalogues for both 2001 and 2002. In 2002 Oris introduced their red rotor on their movements, and as this watch doesn’t have the painted rotor we are comfortable to say this watch was made circa 2001.
CONDITION
If you have never seen a regulator watch up close before then please allow us to explain what this complication does. The hour, minute and second hand all run off different axis, rather on top of each other. The benefit this brings is that on a normal movement the hour and minute hand cross over each other once an hour, whereas on a regulator that only happens once ever twelve hours. The name Regulator was because watch and clock repairers would have a clock with a regulator display in their shop, from which they would set the time on the watches and clocks they were working on.
This example is in great condition. The 60 click unidirectional bezel clicks positively, and the automatic movement is running sweetly. The screw down crown has just been replaced by the official Oris service centre. The hands glow nicely still – not Seiko bright, but still clearly visible. The big bracelet is very good and has the divers wetsuit extension. The 27 jewel movement has a quick set date function.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity and an Oris service case.
