A very attractive Baume & Mercier Capeland men’s watch, with a more elegant dial than many of this time. Model reference MV045221.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is difficult to date Baume & Mercier watches, but we do have a 2001 copy of the Wristwatch Annual and that shows this model with this dial available in 2001. The cost price was $1,750, exactly the same price as the Omega Seamaster SMP300 in that year. Later and earlier editions of the same book do not show the same blue dial model. You could save $250 new by having the leather strap, but it is always better to buy the bracelet version of a watch – you would struggle to buy a bracelet later, certainly for the same money.
CONDITION
The blue dial is really nice, and the sword hands are filled with SuperLuminova. The domed sapphire crystal is scratch free. The automatic movement is the BM11895, which is basically an ETA 2895-1. This is no bad thing, as these are good movements and it does mean spares (should they be needed) should be easy to get without having to go back to the manufacturer. Neither the case nor bracelet have been polished, so they will show light marks. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. You can also wear this on a leather strap, as we have shown in some photos.
