The Gerald Genta design people forget about, the Pasha de Cartier was very different for Cartier when it was first introduced. Model reference 2113.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This model had quite a decent production run, from the late nineties to about 2010. Later ones tended to have oval subdials, not round like these, and we have found the exact match in both a 1999 book and a 2001 book showing this model with a RRP of $6,800 and $7,361 respectively. Without the original papers, the best we can say is this watch was made circa 2000. Regarding the price, in the same 1999 book it shows a COSC automatic TG Heuer S/el chronograph at $2,200, and an automatic Santos de Cartier with 18k bezel at $3,450. The Pasha de Cartier was a very expensive watch.
CONDITION
Cartier made dress watches – that was the common perception. But when they wanted a sports watch to add to their range there was no better person to call on than Gerald Genta. After all he had already designed the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the IWC Ingenieur among others! Then in 1985 Cartier launched the Genta designed Pasha. The range is still in production, albeit the gent’s model is now £51,000 so you won’t see it too often! One of the key features for any Pasha is the ‘canteen’ screw top on the crown, to make the crown more water resistant and make it very difficult for the crown to be knocked. Both the canteen cover and the chronograph pushers have the typical Cartier polished cabochon spinelle stone fitted. Inside the case is a 37 jewel automatic Cartier calibre 205, which is based on a Frederic Piguet 1185. You can see the decoration via the sapphire case back, and all is working well. The bezel turns smoothly and surrounds the sapphire crystal. There is a Pasha C chronograph, which was a cheaper version, and this doesn’t have the turning bezel, stones in the crown or the exhibition case back (that model has an ETA based movement). You can also get this 2113 model with an alligator strap, but these are expensive to replace when the time comes, so the bracelet is generally preferred. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and clasp.
