HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

While we do not have the sales papers for this watch we do have a picture of the same model in the 1999 Wristwatch Annual.

CONDITION

The Official Cosmonauts range, unsurprisingly, was the choice for the Russian space programme from 1994 onwards.  Fortis are still suppliers to cosmonauts now, and their watches have been used on the International Space Station.  Making a watch space proof adds new challenges to watchmakers, and the feeling of this watch is that is robust without being too chunky.  The leading design point is probably the faded blue dial with tritium hour markers to match the tritium coated hands.  This makes the watch very legible in all lighting conditions, and looks great.  The sapphire crystal has anti reflective coating on both sides and you can see some marks in that coating.  The movement is an ETA 2836-2 automatic.  It has hacking and day date in either English or German.  The sand blasted case shows some marks, and the unidirectional 60 click crown is strong.   The black with blue rubber strap is new, and could be swapped for a black leather strap if preferred as that would have been what came on the watch when new.

This watch will be supplied with the Fortis service box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
