The medium sized Niessing Radius 9 is a very rare and exclusive watch, which is still available now new with an eye watering price.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is proving very difficult to date this watch, but the model was first designed in 1993 so can not be older than that. It is likely newer, but we can not evidence when this example may have been made.
CONDITION
Before we say anything else we should address the price of a new watch. Niessing only list precious metal watches now, not steel like this watch, but the price for a similar size and movement in white gold is $26,100. Even given the high price of gold now, that is expensive for a quartz watch from a brand that few have ever heard of. Obviously the steel watches would have been cheaper, but they give the same look. Designer Günter Wermekes was tasked with creating a design that would be different and timeless, which isn’t easy, but he seems to have pulled it off and an example now lies in the Pinakothek der Moderne art museum in Munich. The main difference of course is the sandwich construction around the leather strap, with two plates screwed together through the strap. This example is in great condition, and could be unworn. We will install a brand new battery in the Swiss quartz movement before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is like new. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, buckle and strap.
