The St. Moritz from Chopard is a luxury ladies sports watch that would rival an Omega Constellation or Ebel Sportwave, but far rarer.  Model reference 8024.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The St. Moritz was Chopard’s first steel sports watch, and when it was launched in 1980 it sold 1,000 watches on the first day – unheard of for Chopard.  in 1998 the watches were redesigned, and this model falls between those dates.  Given the 8,000 serial number, we are estimating this watch was made circa 1989, but we would prefer to have more information to be more certain.

CONDITION

In 1980, gold was at historic highs and this was driving even the best watchmakers to consider other materials.  Also critical to the development of the St. Moritz models were the success of steel sports watches from other top brands, such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus.  So Chopard came up with their own steel sports model with integrated bracelet, and the St. Moritz was born.  They have been overlooked for a while, but the hugely successful modern Alpine Eagle models have bought the spotlight on the St. Moritz predecessors.

This model is the bi metal, and being Chopard what you see that looks like gold will be 18k gold.  The clever clamshell case, which is screwed down via the bezel screws, is matched by the quality of the bracelet manufacture – each links feels like one piece, rather than the three parts they are.  The movement is an ETA based quartz powered item, which has been signed by Chopard.  You can quick set the date via the signed LUC crown, but you can only set the time by turning the hands backwards via the same crown.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.  The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required.  The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.  The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp.

This watch will be supplied with our branded and reusable zipped travel case, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
