A very original Eberhard & Co. Royal Quartz watch, complete with signed bracelet and crown.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sadly we have no papers, and this model does not feature in the Eberhard 7 Co. museum either. But we do know that in 1985 Tissot started using this same movement, and in 1987 most Eberhard watches were marked for the brands Centenary, which this isn’t. This is also an earlier movement as it has a trimmer (a device to fine tune the quartz movement), and trimmers stopped being fitted by the late eighties to most movements. So circa 1986 is a likely production date.
CONDITION
The names on this watch may be familiar – Eterna had a Royal Quartz model too, launched in 1976. And on the case back is the word Manhattan, which is more associated in the Omega Constellation too. But this watch shares no connection to either of those brands. The case is perfect for the times – bi metal and small, and very slim, but this size now is considered unisex. The bracelet has gold plated centre links, and they have even wear to the plating. The bezel has no wear through any plating, and may be solid gold – this is a high wear point and we might expect to see wear through gold plate on the bezel otherwise. The glass has a small chip at 23 minutes. The movement is a widely used ETA 955.412, and this is stamped for Eberhard so we know it is not a later replacement. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The bracelet is an integrated design, so can not be swapped for a leather strap, and as such it is vital you measure your wrist to make sure this will fit you. Finding spare links will not be easy on such a scarce watch.
