This tonneau cased Omega De Ville qualifies as an ultra thin watch, which was all the rage at the time. Model reference 191.0105.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can date this watch to being made in either late 1980 or early 1981.
CONDITION
Until the late 1970, if you wanted an ultra thin watch you needed to spend a lot of money on a watch from the brands like Piaget, Vacheron Constantin or Audemars Piguet. It was only then that the most advanced quartz movements could be built thin enough to allow them to be fitted into cases of 5mm or less thickness. The quartz watches were often cheaper, as brands like Omega could scale production and used gold plated cases instead of solid gold (which had quadrupled in price within a decade by 1980). So you could get the appearance of a watch that might cost three months wages, for the price of something that was closer to two weeks wages. This one uses Omega’s calibre 1365, which also has no crown – the time is set via the pusher at three. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The dial is original and clean, and the 20 micron gold plated case does have some wear points but they are not that obvious on the wrist. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, buckle and movement.
