This Smiths Sport Timer would have been an economical model, built to take the rough and tumble of sports.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Stopwatches are always difficult to date, but we have found this model in 1978, 1979 and 1980 catalogues.  In 1978 and 1980 the minute counter was blue, and in 1979 the Sport Timer minute counter was red, so we think this watch was made circa 1979.  The factory that made this watch closed in June 1980, so it can not be later than that.

CONDITION

This watch was made in the Smiths / Ingersoll factory in South Wales, and being called a Sports Timer could have been used at club or school levels.  The minute sub dial is divided into three seconds – twenty minutes for ice hockey periods, 40 minutes for rugby and 45 minutes for football, all with symbols next to the time to help.  The case is all plastic and not designed to come apart , so the cord is likely to be the original.  To operate the stop watch you press the button at 52 to start and stop, and press the crown to reset to zero.  You also wind the watch up via the crown, so no searching for batteries every sports day (every PE teacher will understand that pain)

This watch will be supplied with a basic presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
