This Richard manual wind watch is designed to look like it had been carved from a golden coin. Some manufacturers did do this, but this case was always made to be a watch.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We know that the high end Peseux 7001 21,600 bph movement was made between 1972 and 2004. Other brands that used this as a base movement included Girard-Perregaux, Blancpain, Omega and Stowa, so we are in good company. There is a service mark for this watch dating to 1978 in the case back, so this watch must have been made before then. The company Richard we are still researching, as the name is quite common. We currently think it was a company based in Morges, founded in 1948, but if you know more please do let us know.
CONDITION
The gold plated case (including the case back unusually) is in good overall condition, with just small tool marks where the clip on case back has been removed in the past. The coin rim effect is nice. The dial looks stunning – the head in relief really does catch the light, and the star hour markers are all there and each feature bevel edges. The watch is running well, and the dark green leather strap is new but could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
