Who made this NOS sterile dial watch, and why was it never sold – despite having a Swiss manual wind movement made by Tissot?

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Production dates for most Tissot movements are quite accurately available, and they made this movement between 1972 and 1979.  Realistically this watch could have been made at any point between those years, so we can selected 1976 as a mid point year which also fits the styling.

CONDITION

Sterile watch dials simply mean they do not have a logo on them.  Often the movement  or the case will be stamped with a makers name but in this watch there is no signs of the maker at all.  Given that it has a Tissot 2541 manual wind 17 jewel movement it is likely that it was made either for Tissot or Lanco, who alongside Omega made up part of the same group.  It could be that thjis was a prototype, or a full production model just sold at a more affordable price so as not to devalue Tissot’s offerings? (remember the Swiss were panicking in the 1970’s and factories were closing every month due to the quartz crisis).  Either way, this is NOS (new old stock) and doesn’t appear to have ever been worn, with the sticker still on the case back.  Condition is as good as you are ever going to find, and all for the same sort of cost as people would buy the movement alone for.  The strap is unworn, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
