With the case back sticker still in place, this Mido Multistar must be one of the nicest out there. Model reference 1849.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The movement used in this watch was first in production in 1976, so this can not be older than that year. And given the styling, and the general switch to quartz, slim watches that happened from the mid to late 1970’s it is unlikely to have been much later either.
CONDITION
The dial is very unusual, starting dark green at the top and fading to silver at the bottom. Happily Mido fitted this Multistar with hands with lume infill, so it is still easy to read the time regardless of the background colour changes. Powering the watch is a 25 jewel ETA 2789-1 automatic movement, with quick set day and date. You can also set the day of the week to French if you prefer. The rotor is signed Mido but may be a service replacement – this Multistar watch has a beat rate of 21,600 and the rotor states 28,800. It may have been what was in stock at the time and was used by Mido to complete the watch when new too – 1976 was a particularly tough year for Swiss watch manufacturers. The integrated STL bracelet is the original, and has the original signed clasp too. It is quite long so should fit most wrists – vital with integrated bracelets. With the shop case back sticker still in place, this watch can not have been worn much, and the condition backs this up.
