With a large case and a Valjoux movement, this Precimax chronograph is going to have lots of fans.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
There is no way to accurately date this watch to a specific year that we know of. However the movement was in production between 1969 and 1978, so combined with the styling (Lotus JPS anyone?) we think this was made circa 1975.
CONDITION
Precimax had been making watches since 1946, and while they may not be the best known brand we have always been impressed with the ones we have sold before. This is a large watch for a vintage piece, and the 42mm case has 20 micron gold plating. Being a chronograph, with calendar, these complications add thickness to the movement and case so it is not uncommon to see marks when the watch may have caught a door frame or similar in the past. It is not bad, but when you look closely you see a ding to the top right lug at the bottom, and various tiny marks in the 20 micron gold plating. The plating itself is good, and not worn – this is helped by the hidden lugs design as it has fewer parts like lugs sticking out. The dial is very good, with a pop of red against the gold and white. The movement is a seventeen jewel Valjoux 7734, with 45 minute chronograph and semi quick set date, which is all working and resetting well. The bezel is fixed, and the black rally leather strap is new, chosen to compliment the bezel and subdials. This could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
