HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The serial numbers database for Universal Geneve stops in 1967, and this watch is a few hundred thousand more than the last recorded numbers. The movement design used in this watch was in production between 1965 and 1970, so this watch is consistent with being produced in 1969 or 1970
CONDITION
Normally you would find this in house caliber 1-69 movement in either a Polerouter, or maybe the Shadow series, but this watch doesn’t have a sub brand which means it is harder to find (SEO wasn’t an issue in 1970!). The 28 jewel movement has a small rotor that winds the watch whilst it is being worn, and it is beautifully finished with Côtes de Genève stripes. The date can be semi quick set by winding the hands past midnight, back to 21.00, and past midnight – repeat as necessary. The date wheel has nice open 6 and 9 numbers too. The crown is signed, so probably original. The stainless steel case is in very good shape, as are the dial and hands. The dial has a little fading around the hour markers, but is otherwise good. The cream leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
