An interesting and pioneering piece of horology! The Avia Ajustor has external buttons to fine tune the watch movement, and was very expensive.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the research we have been able to do on this watch we understand this model was produced in very limited numbers in 1967. At a list price of £267, they didn’t sell well. (Adjusted for inflation that is over £5,000!)
CONDITION
Before we get onto condition let’s talk about the unique selling point of this Ajustor model (note it is not Adjustor). There are two pushers between the bottom lugs, and the dial tells you what these do. Push the + button and you will advance the timing by roughly 5 seconds a day. The – button unsurprisingly reverses this. We haven’t seen any other watches with this type of arrangement, and our watchmaker couldn’t wait to take the back off to see the works!
Sadly this watch is not in the condition we prefer. The dial is dirty and scratched. The gold plate has worn in several areas. Happily the movement, a heavily modified FHF73, is running nicely and the adjuster buttons do seem to work. We have priced this watch to appeal to the people who like to see how things work rather than have a pristine watch on their wrist. A nice Condor leather strap is included.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
