HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is difficult to date Ulysse Nardin watches with much accuracy, but the movement ebauche used in this watch was launched in 1964, so this watch can not be older than 1964. Newer movements came out quite frequently, so some time shortly after 1964 is likely.
CONDITION
If you are looking for a high quality watch, but nothing flashy or from an obvious brand that everyone will know, then this could be for you. The linen dial has that subtle patterning that remains appealing no matter how often you wear the watch. The case, with the screw down case back and signed crown, is nicely signed and in good order. This Ulysse Nardin may only use an AS1717 as the base movement (ebauche), but the decoration is on another level and it is running sweetly. One minor downside is the acrylic crystal has a small imperfection in the glass between 8 and 9, but as it has the magnifier under the crystal over the date window we think it may be the original crystal so did decide to leave it be. The suede leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The buckle is signed but feels quite chunky – it might be a more modern Ulysse Nardin buckle. The watch is signed on the dial, case (twice), movement, crown, and buckle.
