With a crazy dial and a rarely seen complication, this Mido Regulator will be a different addition to anyone’s collection.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we don’t have a massive database of models to base this off, we do know the movement used as a the base caliber for this watch was launched in 1965. This watch might then be newer than 1965, but it can not be older.
CONDITION
A regulator watch or clock is unusual, but the lay out is supposed to be clearer than a regular design. Each hand measuring hours, minutes and seconds has its own mounting point and scale, rather than sharing a central mounting point. This means there are fewer times that the hands sit across each other. Whilst technically true, it still takes a little adjusting to! The dial is a opalescent finish, flicking between cream and light blue in an attractive and captivating way – the video may be the best way to see this. The movement used is a FHF calibre 81, signed for Mido on the ratchet wheel. This is a 17 jewel, manual wind movement that is working well and has a copper finish to the bridges. To make this a regulator movement Mido have lost the moonphase and instead used that space to make the hour wheel at twelve. The steel case has a screw down case back and claims it was waterproof when new, but it shouldn’t be considered water resistant any more. The armoured acrylic crystal is new. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
