HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Corum first produced watches in 1956, and this watch has a movement that was first used in 1959. There was a small technical change in the movement, moving from a setting lever screw to a setting lever pusher, and this has the earlier screw for the setting lever. These factors combine lead us to think this is from circa 1960.
CONDITION
Fine watchmaking is in the details, and it is not always the obvious ones that make a watch. The movement that Corum selected for this was an ETA 2512, which despite being very well finished is not visible to the owner. They wouldn’t see that it has twin shock protection, or that it was adjusted to three positions. The owner wouldn’t appreciate that the movement is mounted to a metal support, that fit snugly in the case, and avoids the bent dials that sometimes affect square dial watches fitted with round movements. At least the wearer does get to see the grey fume linen dial, with applied Corum logo. The dial is quite impressive, but there is some paint missing from the top right corner. That key logo also appears on the crown, but that is marked. The slender steel case is in good shape, and the 20mm lugs offer a wide choice of strap. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
