With a 10k rolled gold bezel and a fan effect dial pattern, this Wittnauer strikes a nice balance between appeal and affordability. Model reference 2446.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The movement use din this watch was first produced in 1955, so we know it can not be older than this date but it may be a few years later than 1955. Unfortunately we have no further evidence to give a firmer approximate date of manufacture.
CONDITION
The fan or maybe shell effect dial is the clear selling point on this watch, but the rest is good too. The dial has a few marks, but not bad for a watch from this period. The case looks to have a stainless steel back that removes, and people have tried this before, but in fact the movement comes out via the armoured crystal. The movement used is signed for Wittnauer as their calibre 11SWG, but it is heavily based on an AS1539 (one nerdy little detail is that the Wittnauer uses a KIF anti shock system, whereas the AS variant uses Incabloc). The crown is worn but is still easy to operate. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
