This Ebel is a classy men’s dress Swiss watch with a Roman numeral dial and manual wind movement. Model reference 528X-64.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Ebel were founded in 1911, but the movement used in this watch wasn’t invented until 1955. The watch may be newer, but can not be older, than 1955.
CONDITION
Dress watches should be thin, and only have two hands, and this mechanical Ebel meets the brief. The dial is clean, and the hands have just enough contrast to be visible. The case is gold plated, with some wear but this is far more noticeable in the enlarged photos than on the wrist. The manual wind movement is stamped for Ebel, calibre 97, but it is actually based on a seventeen jewel AS1525, and it has shock protection on the balance too. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The strap fitted is a short length, but this can be changed – just ask at checkout for a longer strap to be fitted if needed. The watch is signed on the dial and movement. With new Ebel watches starting at ten times the price of this (for the quartz versions), this is a good value way of adding an Ebel to your collection.
