One of the few USA made Gruen models, this solid gold watch is also very stylish.  Model reference 774.

A full database on the Gruen models are not available, but the movement dates to circa 1953.  Gruen opened their Cincinnati factory in 1950, and closed it down in 1958 when they moved to New York, so this has to fit within those parameters.  US hallmark requirements do not include date codes, otherwise we could be more accurate.

The 14k solid gold case has the bars joining the lugs together, but the strap itself is held on with conventional spring bars.  The manual wind movement is the in house, USA made calibre 335 R.  This 21 jewel movement had a significant upgrade over the standard 335 – it is fitted with Incabloc shock protection.   The dial is marked SWITZERLAND, and maybe the only imported part of the watch.  The dial has a brick texture to the centre, which is very pleasing on the eye, and the incredibly small sub seconds hand at six.  The dial is very clean but when you look with a magnifier there are some signs of age.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
