HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 2018. Despite having the instructions, spare links and even the hang tag this watch doesn’t come with a warranty card.
CONDITION
When these were available new they were £800, which is a significant amount to pay for a Seiko. So it had some upgrades. Seiko finally used sapphire crystal instead of Hardlex, and added anti reflective coating too. To help protect the finish from wear and tear, Seiko applied its super-hard Dia-Shield coating to the SPBD053’s case. This just protects the steel from minor scratches, and is a welcome feature for someone who likes to keep their watches looking sharp. The movement is Seiko’s 6R15, which includes a quick set date, the ability to hand wind as well as automatically wind, and hacking on the seconds. On the divers side, you get 200m water resistance and a screw down crown, as well as a 120 click bezel (Seiko’s sixty click bezels are often criticised for not quite lining up). And of course Seiko is one, if not the best, at doing lume. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, clasp and strap. Overall, the condition of this watch is excellent with only the clasp showing some desk diving marks.
