A very rare watch by TAG Heuer standards, this 2000 series chronograph model is not easy to find. Model reference 540.260 R.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production date number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1993.
CONDITION
Finding information on the 2000 Chronograph is not easy, and finding others for sale is equally tough. We did find this article on a TAG Heuer fan’s blog here of his struggle to find one (and not overpay), and since he hasn’t updated we can presume his search continues.
The bezel, which turns with a strong click in one direction only, is very similar to the Professional divers watch and has large over riders to assist with divers who might need to adjust this while under water or wearing gloves. The bezel pip at 60 is missing the paint, but otherwise it is good for a sports watch (which are designed to take some knocks). It surrounds a sapphire crystal that shows of the very good black dial to the best it can be. The hands may have been replaced at service, as the glow brighter than the dial. The movement is an ETA 251 series chronograph, with five separate coils and 27 jewels to keep everything running smoothly and just like when it left Switzerland. You have 1/10 of a second dial at 2, centre chronograph seconds and minutes, chronograph hours at 10 and constant seconds at six for normal timekeeping. You also have quick set date at 4, so it is a high end specification. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
