Commonly known as a blind mans watch, this Seiko is specifically designed for the visually impaired. Model reference 7C17-8000.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1993. The catalogue picture is also taken from 1993, and shows this model on an elasticated bracelet – a very useful addition for a visually impaired person.
CONDITION
The watch is different to a standard watch in a few ways, in order to help people who are either blind or visually impaired tell the time. The bezel is hinged at the top, allowing the wearer to lift the glass out of the way in order to touch the hands to tell the time. In order to help facilitate this, the normally delicate hands are strengthened, no seconds hand is fitted, and the raised hour markers are also stronger than usual. The common downside with this design, which had been available for years, is that the hands and dial does get dirty from oils naturally found on your fingertips, but this example is excellent. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred.
