HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number printed on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1990.
CONDITION
First introduced in 1987, the Polaris was probably just a little too late fashion wise for the time. It is a small, slim, quartz powered watch with an integrated bracelet that better suits the mid eighties for styling than the late eighties. This watch was rated to 120m water resistance, and the larger 200m divers style is now known as the Pre Bond Seamaster, but our watch is the dressier version. Omega never revealed how they made the case with the inlaid gold, but it has lasted well. The size is small for a mans watch, so we have also listed it as unisex. There are more collectable versions of the Polaris, but ones like the swansong limited edition for the 1992 Olympics can fetch £2,000+ and have more complex movements. This has what Omega call their 1438 calibre, but that is little more than a badge engineered ETA 255 series, so spares will be easier to find if needed. The bracelet is the one to have, being all stainless steel and therefore you don’t see wear to the gold plated sections like on the bi metal bracelets. It has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath, and still has the solid gold insert in the clasp (these often are lost). We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.
